Festivals in the Outback

The North Gregory Hotel is proud to support local events such as the Outback Festival, Qld Boulder Opal Festival, Writers Festival, Bronze Swagman Poetry Awards, Vision Splendid Film Festival and more. Winton has more festivals than many and the locals are all involved to make them a unique experience. From Dunny Derbies to fresh-cut Opals and Poetry, it’s the place to be this season!

Bush Poetry at it’s Best

Entertainment at The Gregory takes inspiration from the characters and stories of the channel country. Gregory North entertains at the North Gregory Hotel every evening with bush poetry and history of Waltzing Matilda and Winton. Hydrotherapy spa

The outdoor spa, located near the entertainment area is the only one of its kind in the area. The health benefits range from easing back pain, enhancing sleep, improving heart health, and decreasing anxiety and stress. Come take a dip and let the bubbles work for you! Free for hotel guests.

Banjo’s Beer Garden

Relax in the comfortable atmosphere of the beer garden with fairy lights, a stage and big screen for entertainment. Sit in and relax with a cold beer or glass of wine and enjoy live entertainment from May to September.

Live entertainment at The Gregory

The Gregory showcases a mix of up-and-coming, and contemporary artists. Live music is available from April and runs almost daily through the season finishing in September. See our Facebook Page for updates!

The Musical Fence café

A relaxed and creative atmosphere that is open for breakfast, lunch and takeaway. Our cafe is the perfect place to unwind with a coffee or tea and put your feet up. Open from 8am – 2pm daily.

The home of Outback Australia films

The Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival attracts some of Australia’s best film talent to Winton. The festival celebrates the Australian film industry and the people who dedicate their lives to film. In Winton you are on the set of Australian cinema history. Its rich history and picturesque landscape have appeared on feature films and Australian television alike. The Proposition, Mystery Road, and Texas Rising: The Lost Soldier are all feature movies that have been shot in the Winton area.

Boulder Opals

Winton is one of the oldest and most famous mining towns in Australia. Boulder opals are very unique and are mined from large ironstone boulders under the ground. They can only be found in the areas of Quilpie and of course, Winton. They are the second most valuable type of opal and have a layer of solid brown ironstone on the back of the stone.
